Headline: The 2010 Nantucket Nectars Sunset Music Series Anticipating an Extra Big Piece of CAKE
Body:
NEWPORT, RI, July 7, 2010 – It is certainly a delicious scenario; the band CAKE hits the Newport Yachting Center’s Nantucket Nectars Sunset Music Series stage on Saturday evening, July 17th 2010 to an almost sold-out crowd. That is certainly a strong possibility as only a limited number of tickets for CAKE are still on sale at the tiered pricing levels of $50 for preferred and $35 for standard. Tickets can be purchased on-line at www.newportwaterfrontevents.com by using the ClickNPrint system which offers the benefit of “at home” ticket printing or by calling the Newport Yachting Center Box Office at (401) 846-1600. The opener for CAKE is indie rock band, Winterpills, from Northampton, MA while local singer-songwriter, Kim Lamothe, will grace the smaller, Courtyard Stage.

Often classified as an alternative rock or indie band, CAKE’s music combines multiple musical genres, including funk, rockabilly, pop, jazz, rap and country. Add lyrics full of word play and syncopation, catchy guitar riffs and prominent use of synthesizer and trumpet and you can see why the band has remained popular now entering its third decade together.

The Sacramento, California-based band hit its stride in 1998 with their third studio album, Prolonging The Magic, which contained the hit single “Never There” which reached #1 on the United States Modern Rock Charts. The band followed up that success with the album, Comfort Eagle, and the major hit “Short Skirt/Long Jacket” which reached #7 on the Modern Rock Charts, and is now the theme of the television show, Chuck.

The band headlined the Unlimited Sunshine Tour throughout the 1990’s along with such acts as The Flamming Lips, The Hackensaw Boys and the Detroit Cobras. CAKE’s songs have been featured in numerous television shows, including The Sopranos, Friends and Smallville, along with movies such as Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Me, Myself and Irene and Shallow Hal. CAKE is currently working on a new album with an anticipated release date in the fall of 2010.

“This band has consistently been our biggest seller since the day tickets went on sale,” said Michele Maker Palmieri, General Manager of the Newport Yachting Center. “CAKE has an eclectic music style that really appeals to a broad range of tastes. Our unique downtown waterfront venue also becomes more and more enticing as the summer heats up!”
